Ashraya initially provided grants to schools for the provision
of midday food supplement for children. The program was quite
successful and showed positive outcomes. However, on the advice
of some experts in nutrition, a decision was made in 2006
to discontinue this program in and replace it with de-worming
which is considered to be a much more cost-effective method
of improving children's nutrition status. Ashraya provides
funding for the de-worming tablets, that cost less than 15
US Cents per child per year, The school normally arranges
the services of a school doctor or a volunteer private doctor
to administer the dosage.
Ashraya can also fund the services of a physician for annual
checkups of school children.
